The warmth from the wood-burning stove and a nice down duvet will steer you safely through the night. From late August to April, you can see the Northern Lights in the sky above you from your bed, if you are lucky.
GLØD Aurora Canvas Dome is glam camp! The domes are basically made of a strong outer canvas wall/roof on an aluminium frame combined with a thinner inner layer. The air between the inner and outer layers serves as insulation. The wall facing northwards and much of the roof are transparent. The great view combined with the sounds from nature make it feel like you are sleeping outside.
We have also built a stylish, small toilet room fixed to the dome. This means that you do not have to go on a long walk if you have to go to the toilet at night.
The domes, the grand lavvu, the Single-Track bar and outdoor kitchen are connected by walkways that lie above the ground, which makes this a very nice place to be.
Heated and furnished – sleeps two or three
The domes are equipped with a king size, comfortable Wonderland bed (180 cm × 200 cm – can be devided in to twin beds, 90 x 200 cm), a table and two chairs and a stand to hang outdoor clothing. One of the domes can be organized with an extra bed. As many of our guests enjoy outdoor activities, and are outdoors regardless of the weather, the dome also features a drying rack!
There is underfloor heating and a large wood-burning stove which keeps the whole dome warm. The bed is equipped with an electric blanket. The dome also has electricity and Wi-Fi.
We use only 100% renewable hydro electrical power, delivered by the local power company Ishavskraft, produced by Alta River.
Location
The Aurora Canvas Domes are situated in a small pine forest a few kilometers from downtown Alta, right beside GLØD Headquarters and GLØD Boutique Apartment. This is a peaceful area and our guests can explore the many mountainbike and fatbike trails, walk in the pine forest and mountains behind, or stroll along the banks of the Alta River.
It’s just a 15-minute drive from Alta Airport to the Aurora Canvas Domes.
For those who are in Alta to enjoy salmon fishing in Alta River: one of the river’s best fishing spots, Forebygninga, is just 200 m away.
Toilet, shower and sauna
Each dome has its own toilet and wash-hand basin, while the shower and sauna are in the GLØD building about 30 m from the dome.
